Pete Richardson, appointed as new Head of Loretto School in Musselburgh.

The Loretto School Board of Governors are delighted to announce their new Headmaster, Pete Richardson, following the retirement of his predecessor, Dr Graham Hawley.

Previously Vicegerent (Senior Deputy Head) at Loretto, Pete grew up in South Africa and attended Kearsney College. The son of a Methodist minister and theologian, Pete’s mother was also a school principal and he is delighted to be following in her footsteps.

Pete gained his English Literature degree from the University of Kwazulu-Natal where he played several sports, was Chair of university athletics and Co-chair of RAG (Army & Navy Club). Since graduating, Pete has dedicated his entire career to education. He began teaching in South Africa as a fresh-faced 21 year old before moving to the United Kingdom where he taught English and History and has been a Housemaster at both Worksop College and Gordonstoun for a total of nine years, latterly serving as Assistant Head Boarding at Gordonstoun before joining Loretto..

Pete is a member of HMC (The Heads’ Conference) and member of the Board of FetLor. He has participated in ultra-marathon, Ironman triathlon and K1 and K2 kayaking, but cricket remains his favourite pastime. When off duty, time spent with his wife, Mel, and his two children, both students at Loretto, is invaluable.
